Solent Middle School is a co-educational comprehensive school for children between the ages of nine and thirteen. It is a purpose built three form entry middle school with an admissions number of 90 for the new year 5. It was opened in 1972 to serve the needs of the western part of Cowes and Gurnard, together with the rural area extending as far west as Newtown Creek including the village of Porchfield.
